Experiences

He read law at the University of Malaya under a scholarship from the Kuok Foundation and graduated from the same in April, 1990. He was awarded the British High Commissioner's Award and the Cambridge Commonwealth Trust's bursary, in 1990, to study for his Master of Law degree at the University of Cambridge, United Kingdom. He graduated with an LL.M degree (high upper second class) from the same in June 1991, majoring in Corporate Law & Finance, Securities Regulations, International Sales and Private International Law. He first read in chambers at Messrs. Nazri Aziz & Wong and subsequently, upon his return from England, continued at Messrs. Skrine & Co. He was called to the Malaysian Bar on 7th February, 1992 and was retained and worked as a legal assistant in Messrs. Skrine & Co. He later joined the legal chamber of Tan Sri Dato’ T. Tharu in 1994. On 1 April 1996, he set up Messrs Soh Hayati & Co and provides legal services mostly in corporate law, property development projects, conveyancing and banking matters, civil litigation (including construction claims) and debt collection work.

He is now in his 23rd year of legal practice. He has experience in corporate finance and acquisition (including reverse takeover of public listed companies, restructuring, sale and purchase of shares agreements, sale and purchase of business and assets, joint venture agreements, shareholder’s agreement, overseas distributorship agreements, assembly agreements, various real property transactions, management agreements, restructuring agreements, technical assistance agreements, banking loan documentation (retail and corporate, including syndicated loans), conveyancing and banking litigation work, commercial leasing agreements, commercial and company law matters, including the various ancillary advice for listing and applications.

Background

Mr. Tan Miu Chon holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from an institution of higher learning in the United Kingdom. He further pursued his interest in real estate through a diploma programme conducted by The College of Estate Management, United Kingdom. Mr. Tan also holds an auctioneer’s license from the State of Selangor.

Mr. Tan is presently working for VPC Alliance (PJ) Sdn Bhd, a property consultancy firm providing valuation, estate agency and property management services. He has more than 10 years of experience in the real estate industry.

Over the years, he has undertaken various tasks related to the real estate industry. In valuation, he has undertaken valuations for different purposes such as financing, internal management, migration, submission to Securities Commission, submission to Bursa Malaysia, foreclosure, sale as well as for purchase purposes. In the estate agency division, he was tasked to undertake specific projects by the company i.e. sale by tender.

In addition to the above, Mr. Tan also undertakes various research and consultancy works for financial institutions and property developers on matters relating to the property sector as well as providing relevant advice on the property sector. He also conducts in-house training and talks for company’s staff and negotiators as well as to external parties such as financial institutions.
